Overview

V2 forging is the upgrade layer that turns a basic Nichirin katana into something that keeps pace at max level. It is not a new weapon system: the craft consumes the blade you already own and returns a stronger version. Start from our weapons list if you have not chosen a base drop.

Two smiths handle two different jobs, and mixing them up is the most common mistake. Yagane forges the standard breathing-style katanas from Crude Iron, while Togane runs the V2 reforging route near Mist Village. Reach level 65 and finish his quest to open the Nightfall craft as well.

Unlock and Craft V2

Unlock order matters more than anything else here. Rush the level gate, complete the quest, then start banked dungeon runs so you are not farming points the same evening you want to craft. Efficiency comes from doing the boring part early, exactly as our leveling guide lays out.

Once the forge is open, every V2 upgrade uses the same template: a weapon you already own, the matching schematic, dungeon currency and a short list of materials. Because the old blade is consumed, upgrading a throwaway weapon is a permanent waste. The weapon list shows which bases last.

Pick the upgrade order by the style you play most, not by the weapon that looks strongest in a video. A V2 blade only pays off if you keep using it, and mastery levels continue past character level 255. Check your current weapon mastery before committing.

What to Upgrade First

Spend in the order your playtime supports. Most players get more from upgrading one katana and the accessory slots around it than from spreading materials across several blades. Save the expensive pushes for a weapon you will still use after the Nightfall craft.

Materials disappear faster than expected once you start a second craft, because every recipe repeats the same ore, scrap and thread. Bank a buffer before you begin, and keep dungeon runs going between quests so you are never blocked at the equipment stage.

Material Notes

Mythic Refinement Ore is the material people ask about most, and it is the one worth protecting. Metal Scrap and Silk Thread show up more often, so treat them as bulk stock rather than treasure. Nightfall crafts and V2 recipes draw from the same pool, so stockpile before you commit.

Four Parts of a V2 Craft

Four moving parts decide whether your first craft succeeds. Miss any one of them and Togane simply will not take the job, which is why players report being stuck at the anvil. Walk down the cards and check the base weapon first.

Reforging Habits

Treat reforging as one lane inside a bigger plan. A V2 katana raises your damage ceiling, but clan buffs, mastery levels and accessories decide how high that ceiling actually sits. Line the upgrades up with the rest of your build.

Finally, remember that V2 is not the end of the ladder. Nightfall crafts sit above it and use several of the same resources, so anything you bank now still has value later. Plan the whole route instead of one step at a time.
