Overview

Thunder is the assassin kit of the eight breathing styles. Its identity is sudden dashes, a field catch, an aerial strike and a cinematic finisher, all built to close distance instantly. Zentaro teaches it from an elevated platform near Windy Peak, and the ascent is one of the hardest trainer routes in the game. Start with the unlock locations guide.

Trainer:Zentaro
Location:Mountain platform near Windy Peak
Movement required:Wall Climb
Level gate:Level 25
Cost:5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns, 5 Beast Cores
Katana drop:Thunder Katana from Zentaro (5%)

Thunder Breathing Showcase

Thunder is the style people ask about most, so there is no shortage of showcase footage. Watch a full unlock run before you make the climb, because the route itself is half the challenge, then compare the kit against the written breathing tier list.

Unlocking Thunder Breathing

The Thunder unlock has two gates stacked on top of each other. First you need Wall Climb for the vertical ascent, then you need the trainer's requested axe and mace set, whose unlock item is a low-rate boss drop. Only after both are handled can you start the route to Zentaro.

Zentaro's quest chain runs six training tasks and sends you onward to Butterfly Mansion, also displayed as Butterfly Estate. The sequence ends with a final battle against the Thunder Trainee, and beating it grants the style. Keep level 25, 5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores ready before you begin, as the Water route explains.

1

Unlock Wall Climb

Double jump and wall climbing arrive at level 4 through the skill tree, and the final ascent is impossible without them.

2

Reach level 25

Trainers will not begin training below the level gate, so clear the early quests before you make the trip.

3

Farm the materials

Collect 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores from demons at night, then bank the 5,000 Wen fee.

4

Prepare the axe and mace set

Zentaro's second gate requires the set item, which is a low-rate drop from a boss encounter.

5

Finish the trainee battle

Complete the six training tasks and beat the Thunder Trainee to claim the style.

Do not attempt the ascent without Wall Climb. The final stretch is a repeated vertical climb, and a fall there costs you the whole trip.

Thunder Breathing Move List

Thunder's kit is built around contact. Community breakdowns describe a fast dash, a follow-up that keeps you glued to the target, a field catch that punishes movement, an aerial strike and a cinematic finisher. The Godspeed movement skill was nerfed after launch, so judge it by how it connects rather than raw distance, and check the style breakdown.

MoveWhat it doesBest used for
Thunderclap and FlashThe opening dash strike, credited with negligible startup and a guard break on contactEngaging and punishing blocks
Dash follow-upKeeps you attached to the target after the first strike landsExtending a burst combo
Field catchCatches opponents moving through the area around youAnti-mobility and duels
Aerial strikeA downward attack that keeps pressure on from aboveChasing after a launcher
GodspeedThunder's movement skill, toned down after launch but still fast for repositioningClosing and escaping
Cinematic finisherThe style's cutscene finisher, used to end a combo cleanlyFinishing a health bar
Move behaviour has changed since launch, and the Godspeed nerf is the clearest example. Recheck current patch notes before building a combo around a specific distance.

Thunder Strengths and Weaknesses

Thunder's selling point is speed. It reaches targets that slower styles cannot touch, and its burst windows are short enough to slip between enemy attacks. The trade is forgiveness: if the dash misses, you are standing in range with your best tool on cooldown, which is exactly what the tier list means by high variance.

That trade makes Thunder a strong duel pick and a demanding boss pick. In PvP the burst can end a fight before the opponent responds, while against large bosses a missed dash costs more because there are fewer safe gaps. Read the style comparison before choosing it as your only kit.

Fastest engage

Thunderclap and Flash closes distance with almost no startup, which is why duel lists rate the style so highly.

Short burst windows

Thunder wins quick exchanges, so land your combo and disengage before the cooldowns punish you.

Guard pressure

Community notes credit the opening strike with breaking guard on direct contact, punishing passive blocking.

Nerfed movement

Godspeed was toned down after launch, dropping Thunder from early S tier into B on post-nerf rankings.

Hardest trainer route

Wall Climb, a vertical ascent and a set item make Zentaro the most demanding trainer to reach.

Thunder rewards clean execution and punishes guessing. If you prefer a forgiving kit while you learn the map, start with Water and revisit Thunder later.

Combos and Playstyle

Play Thunder like an assassin, not a bruiser. Open with the dash strike, confirm that it connected, then spend the burst window on your follow-up before anyone can reset. If the first hit is blocked or whiffs, disengage, because standing inside an enemy's range with empty cooldowns is how the style punishes impatience compared with a patient Water game plan.

Mastery is what turns Thunder from a one-trick opener into a full duel kit. Skill points feed a per-style tree, weapon mastery levels on its own track, and the Thunder Katana from Zentaro sits at a five percent drop rate. Farming that blade while you learn the moveset is the efficient way to spend the mid game.

Clan choice sharpens the kit further. Rengoku leans into raw damage and burn synergy, Kamado adds health and stamina for survivability, and either roll raises the ceiling on your burst windows. Compare those buffs before chasing a clan, then check the tier list for how Thunder is currently rated.

Thunder Breathing Checklist

Thunder is the right pick if you enjoy fast, decisive fights and do not mind a demanding trainer route. The reward is the strongest engage in the game; the cost is a kit that punishes every miss. Read the route guide before you attempt the climb.

Bring the full stack on the first trip. Wall Climb, 5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns, 5 Beast Cores and the axe-and-mace set item all have to line up before Zentaro's training starts, and forgetting one turns a long climb into a wasted evening. The style overview lists the shared gate for every trainer.

  • Unlock double jump and Wall Climb
  • Confirm level 25 before the ascent
  • Farm 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores at night
  • Secure the axe and mace set item first
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you unlock Thunder Breathing?

Reach level 25 with Wall Climb unlocked, carry 5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores, then complete Zentaro's six training tasks and beat the Thunder Trainee.

Where is Zentaro in Project Slayers 2?

Zentaro waits on an elevated mountain platform near Windy Peak, up the vertical route behind the bear spawn. Reaching him needs Wall Climb for the final ascent.

Why is Thunder Breathing gated twice?

Its trainer wants an axe and mace set, and the item that unlocks the set comes from a boss at a low drop rate. That farm sits on top of the standard level and material gate.

Was Thunder Breathing nerfed?

Yes. The Godspeed movement skill was toned down, and community rankings dropped Thunder from an early S placement into B tier. The burst combo still connects quickly in duels.

What is Thunder Breathing's best move?

Thunderclap and Flash is the signature opener. Community notes credit it with almost no startup delay and a guard break on direct contact, making it the strongest engage tool in the style.

Is Thunder good for bossing?

It works, but it demands timing. Burst windows are short and a missed dash leaves you exposed, so pair it with a patient playstyle or bring a group to hold the boss in place.

Does Zentaro drop a weapon too?

Yes. Zentaro also drops the Thunder Katana at a five percent rate, so the same trip can hand you both the style and its matching blade. Check the location guide for the route.

Should I pick Thunder or Water first?

Pick Water if you want the easier trainer route and a forgiving kit, and Thunder if you want the fastest engage despite the harder climb. The tier list covers both.
