Overview

Breathing styles are the Slayer combat path in Project Slayers 2, and each one rebuilds your moveset, stamina economy and matchup spread from scratch. Eight styles ship at launch, spread across three Slayer weapon types, so the choice you make at level 25 shapes every fight that follows. Compare them on the breathing tier list before you commit.

Styles at launch:8
Trainer level gate:Level 25
Wen fee:5,000 Wen
Material gate:30 Demon Horns
Extra material:5 Beast Cores
Currency:Wen

Every Style Ranked on Video

Creator breakdowns show how each style actually moves before you spend materials on a trainer. This release-window ranking covers every Slayer breathing style alongside the Blood Demon Arts, which makes it a useful sanity check against the written breathing tier list and the individual style pages.

How to Unlock a Breathing Style

Every style shares the same headline gate: level 25, 5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores. That launch-build walkthrough figure makes the night-time material farm far more demanding than the coin fee, so plan the Demon Horns before anything else and check the unlock locations for your trainer's route.

Training is a quest chain, not a purchase. You locate the trainer, complete their tasks, and beat a trainee in a duel before the style unlocks, as the Water Breathing route shows. Budget travel time and spare stamina alongside your materials, and never start the trip with an empty inventory.

1

Reach level 25

Trainers will not teach anyone below level 25, so clear the early quests around Windy Peak first.

2

Bank 5,000 Wen

The fee is paid in Wen, the game's only currency. Quest rewards, boss kills and sold loot all count toward it.

3

Farm 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores

Both drop from demons at night in caves and in the open world, and this farm is the real gate rather than the fee.

4

Finish the training quest

Each trainer runs a short quest chain that ends with a trainee duel before the style is finally yours.

The material farm is the slow part. Demon Horns and Beast Cores come from night-time demon kills, so start collecting them long before you reach level 25.

Breathing Style Cheat Sheet

Use this cheat sheet when you are choosing what to chase first. Identity, combat range and trainer area are the details that decide how a style feels in practice, and every entry shares the same gate: level 25, 5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores from the trainer routes.

Published rankings disagree about the very top, especially after balance patches, so treat each placement as a starting point rather than a verdict. Range and role matter more than raw tier position, which is why the breathing style tier list explains the reasoning behind every placement.

Which Style Fits You

There is no single best pick for every player. Match the style to the mode you actually play, then confirm the walk on the unlock locations page before you commit your first 5,000 Wen. The wrong style for your habits costs a reset later.

Water

Water rewards patient players with flowing pressure, launchers and the cleanest learning curve of the eight.

Thunder

Thunder trades safety for burst, closing distance instantly and punishing anyone who blocks at the wrong moment.

Flame and Wind

Flame leans on burn pressure while Wind plays the flexible mid-range duel, making both strong generalists.

Insect and Serpent

Insect stacks poison and debuffs, while Serpent wins through awkward, slippery combo routes.

Sound

Sound turns beads and slashes into stuns and crowd wipes, ideal for farming packs of enemies.

Read the tier list alongside this grid, then pick for the mode you play most rather than the mode you watch most.

Movesets, Mastery and Skill Points

A breathing style is not a finished kit the moment you unlock it. Mastery levels separately from your character level, and skill points earned per level feed a per-style skill tree, so reaching level 255 does not complete your moveset. The Water Breathing kit shows how one tree fills out.

Community pages report that this sequel's styles use five moves instead of the older kits, with one cinematic finisher each. Treat those counts as community reporting rather than patch notes, but expect a short set of core skills plus a finisher on every ladder, as the Thunder moveset suggests.

Weapon choice matters too. Breathing-style katanas are forged from Crude Iron by Yagane, Togane handles V2 reforging later, and several trainers double as boss encounters with their own katana drops. Those trainer routes overlap with boss fights more often than new players expect.

Before You Commit

Swapping later is not free, so spend a few minutes comparing the current breathing rankings against the mode you actually play before paying a trainer. A style that dominates duels can feel slow when you are farming quests for hours.

Bring the full material stack on your first trip. Running back for Demon Horns or Beast Cores wastes far more time than the 5,000 Wen fee, and every trainer shares those requirements, as the locations guide confirms for each route.

  • Confirm the trainer route before you travel
  • Bank 5,000 Wen plus the full material stack
  • Check how mastery scales for your chosen style
  • Decide whether you are building for PvP, bossing or farming
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How many breathing styles are in Project Slayers 2?

There are eight: Water, Thunder, Wind, Flame, Stone, Insect, Serpent and Sound. Community concept pages for other styles are unofficial and do not exist in the launch build.

What level do you need for a breathing style?

Level 25 is the shared trainer gate. Below that, trainers will not start training, even if you are already carrying the Wen and materials required for the style.

How much does a breathing style cost?

A launch-build walkthrough lists 5,000 Wen alongside level 25, 30 Demon Horns and 5 Beast Cores. The night-time material farm, not the Wen fee, is the real barrier.

Which breathing style is best for beginners?

Water is the friendliest entry point thanks to flowing pressure and a forgiving learning curve, while Flame and Wind are strong generalists once you understand the basics of combat.

Can you change breathing style later?

Yes, but a reset is required and your mastery progress does not simply carry across. Compare the breathing tier list before committing your first stack of materials.

Do breathing styles matter for PvP?

They matter a great deal. Post-nerf community rankings put Serpent near the top, with Thunder's burst still dangerous in duels, while Water and Wind sit lower in strict PvP comparisons.

Where are the breathing trainers?

Trainers are spread across mountains, Butterfly Mansion, the snowy region, Iceveil Valley and the harbor route. The unlock locations page maps each one.

Do I need Wall Climb for any trainer?

The Thunder trainer sits on a high mountain platform, so Wall Climb and double jump make that trip far easier. Both movement tools come from the skill tree.
